Pros and cons of Englisch XL Pro Wörterbuch app for iPhone and iPad

Englisch XL Pro Wörterbuch app good for

I find this German English dictionary excellent, a great tool to help in learning German. I put on a wish list two things : 1 synonims - would be excellent to clarify word use such as the classic surfer, sollen, mussen. 2 verb conjugation - acces to present future past etc. tenses would be great. Also, on the favorites, would be great to be able to sort them according to different criteria. Thanks Michele
Real Pro! Cant believe it, better then my BIG dictionary. Langenscheidt, your the best
Hervorragende Qualität, vor allem in der Beherrschung der Idiome. Superb quality, especially in mastering the idioms.

Some bad moments

This is probably my biggest money money wasting I have done so far on Apple store. The English part is good. The German part of dictionary is hut and miss, some words are complete with expressions but some common words dont even show any variations, uses or idioms. On top of that - the worst issue - when you cycle switch between this and another app, the dictionary goes back to search window. So you need to go through history again to access the last word. Very annoying. There is no way to turn off and on this behavior. Im going to ask money back for this app because this is really annoying. And I guess thats the case with all Langenscheidt dictionaries.
Most striking of all there are no text pronunciation symbols for German words. How is that possible when even Lagenscheidts little yellow pocket dictionaries have this feature?? Additionally, there are no verb conjugations for German verbs. This app is clearly geared toward German speakers: the English portion does offer both features, while the German portion doesnt. I feel somewhat disatisfied with this app given the hefty pricetag I paid. Although the talking aspect is useful, only certain words will have audio proununciations and this makes pronunciation symbols all the more vital. Ultimately Im left feeling cheated (not a great feeling). I think this product will be useful for Germans learning English, but of dubious value for individuals learning German given the lack of pronunciation symbols and a German morphology module.
This is only for people who want to learn english and their mother language is German. No german verb conjugation. I am very disappointed with my purchase.
I bought 4 cheaper dictionaries and wasnt pleased, so went ahead and spent the money and am totally satisfied. Its a professional dictionary. Has everything the cheaper dictionaries dont. All irregular forms, genders, many example sentences, and pronunciations of many words. By far the best dictionary app on the market and well worth the $65. Update: the best dictionary just got better! Now copy any German word in any program and when you open the dictionary it opens straight to the word!
I am a German student at the C1 level (intermediate). There are plenty of words in articles and exercises that are not covered in this dictionary, but the vast majority are (Thats good!). Pronunciation is disappointing -- there is no written pronunciation unless there is also a voice pronunciation and the voice pronunciation doesnt cover a LOT of words. The thing I most dislike is the S L O W N E S S of the underlying software. Tap a word and there is a long wait. This didnt used to be the case on earlier versions on earlier iPhones. It seems that the problem is getting worse. If you look up a word occasionally then this is not such a problem. But if you are a serious learner and you look up dozens of words, day after day, then this dictionary is awful. In sum, I like the basic dictionary a lot -- I have been a fan of Langenscheidt for decades. But they have fumbled the software part of it, and for utterly inexplicable reasons they put only half the pronunciations in.
This App is pretty good but the interface has gotten worse with version 3.56.541. The buttons (Favorites, Flashcards, etc.) are not as clear and well defined. Im not sure if Langenscheidt is trying to make the app more "sleek" or if it has to do with the launch of iOS 8, but the buttons are more faded and harder to distinguish. Therefore Im taking 1 star away from my prior 4-star rating. …Id rather Langenscheidt put its efforts into more vocabulary and functionality than changing an already good interface.
